Dean (Bobby Cannavale) and Nora Brannock (Naomi Watts) just purchased their dream home in the idyllic suburb of Westfield, New Jersey, but after putting all of their savings into closing the deal they soon realize the neighborhood is less than welcoming. There’s a kooky older woman named Pearl (Mia Farrow) and her brother Jasper (Terry Kinney), who sneaks into the Brannock’s house and hides in their dumbwaiter. There’s Karen (Jennifer Coolidge), the realtor and an old acquaintance of Nora’s, who makes them feel like they don’t really belong, and nosy neighbors Mitch (Richard Kind) and Mo (Margo Martindale), who don’t seem to understand property lines. Their icy welcome quickly turns into a full-blown living hell when ominous letters from someone calling themself “The Watcher” start arriving, terrorizing the Brannocks to their breaking point as the neighborhood’s sinister secrets come spilling out. English Overwrought, overstuffed with false clues, bizarre/horror only marginally and, in the second half, extremely illogical and boring. However, the premise with the haunted house and creepy neighbors is appealing and Watts/Cannavale are a fine pair. Unfortunately, the climax is like Poirot after a massive stroke and the moral about greediness is not very believable. ()

English "In America, there are many families living in houses they cannot afford." The psychological thriller genre is not a common occurrence on the scene. Ryan Murphy probably knew this and added another work to his filmography that is worth seeing. A seven-part series about a family that moves into a beautiful house in a seemingly very calm neighborhood. But what will happen with a letter from an unknown writer and not very approachable neighbors, you just can't make it up. And here comes the ingenious space for the imagination of the screenwriter. Episode after episode, I got hooked on this series and wanted more. At least more information, but I didn't get enough. In the end, satisfaction. Mysterious, mysterious, strange, but above all psychologically sophisticated series. ()

English It feels a bit like a slightly more sedate new series of American Horror Story cut off just before the moment when every single character is revealed to be either crazy, a murderer, or a ghost (as is usually the case with AHS). This show is weird. On the one hand, it's not as batshit crazy as AHS, but on the other it can't be taken seriously either, as many of the characters are too bizarre and some of the twists and turns seem stupid. I was more or less entertained, but there was just something distracting about it the whole time. ()
