In Texas Terror, Wayne play John Higgins, who's been tricked by bandits into thinking he's killed Dan Mathews, a man who's been like a father to him. Higgins nurses his grief in self-imposed exile until called by his friend the Sheriff to come to the aid of Dan's daughter Bess. Higgins objects, concerned that Bess will discover his role in her father's death, but the Sheriff prevails on his honor, the driving characteristic of many a character portrayed by Wayne.
