Venice, 1763. When writer and libertine Lorenzo Da Ponte is exiled to Vienna, he is introduced to the Kings favourite composer, Salieri, and a newcomer named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Seeing an opportunity to undermine his rival`s ascension, Salieri tricks Mozart into hiring the unknown Da Ponte as his librettist.
