Drew is a high school student struggling to overcome the inner-city surroundings that threaten to imprison him. After getting manipulated into running drug payments to a local dealer, Drew has nowhere to turn in a family with a deadbeat older brother and an overwhelmed single mom. His only outlet is track practice but that is taken from him as he continues down the path of his sibling; even the affections of a girl at school can't set him straight. Just as it seems hopeless, an ex-track coach with his own demons witnesses Drew's speed and athleticism and decides to train him to reach for more than he ever imagined possible. English A quite interesting juxtaposition of striving to be the best and striving to live. It's not as unconventional as it tries to portray itself; you just feel that there's even less hope for something better here than elsewhere. There are good, believable characters here, but some of the lines they deliver aren't particularly great. That’s because running isn't just about the body, it's about the mind. ()

English The ratings on this site that all point towards a perfect average score didn’t discourage me from the movie; on the contrary. I must say that it was worth it in the end. The boy’s home situation is a disaster in all regards and to make us pity him even more, nothing is his own fault and his family dragged him into all of this. And then this little boy discovers a hidden talent for running. He finds an old dude who drinks like a fish and who decides to help him out because he sees himself during his best years in this boy. And so, they start training for a better life. One super important race offers prospects of a university scholarship and an escape from this environment that smells like trouble. And even though the boy doesn’t really express a whole lot of emotions, I couldn’t but be happy for him. I simply liked the movie even despite the mediocrity and it was a joy to watch. Despite it being really raw here and there, just like life can be. ()
