On her 18th birthday, Constance discovers a well-kept secret: She once had six brothers whom her father cursed in a rage one day and turned into snow-white swans. Constance is the only person who can lift the curse: if she doesn't speak for six years and sews shirts out of stinging nettles, which can turn the swans back into humans. Constance doesn't hesitate a second: She immediately leaves the farm and her rueful father, bravely heads into the dark woods and starts her painful task.
