Poirot's compatriot, famous film star Marie Marvelle, shows him letters demanding the return of her magnificent diamond the 'Western Star'. Despite Poirot's protests, Marie is determined to keep hold of the diamond so that she can wear it at a weekend house party at Yardley Chase. The Adventure of the Western Star is one of the more mediocre cases of the mustachioed Belgian. Personally, I find that most episodes that only involve stealing and escaping are qualitatively weaker than those that involve murder (my subjective opinion). A plus point would be the line with Poirot's chops and his fan obsession with a Belgian star, whom of course only he knows.

It's slightly overstuffed, and in the end, it might be a bit disappointing because it's a story about nothing that isn't perfectly concluded, and that is a shame. I expected there to be a little something more to it. However, it remains true that even so, it's fairly good and it captivates with how people can sometimes manipulate even themselves.
