In this story, set at the outbreak of WWI, an inn becomes the intersection of the tragic fates of different Jewish citizens - peaceful innkeeper Tag, a group of orthodox Chassidim, and wealthy bourgeoisie. This famous adaptation of Julian Stryjkowski's novel masterfully revives the extinct world of Polish Jews, metaphorically capturing the decline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and of traditional values.
