Opening with a surreal and nightmarish scene set in a World War II concentration camp, Evolution portrays the changing nature of European antisemitism through three generations. Basing the film on their own family histories, director Kornél Mundruczó and writer Kata Wéber have crafted a cinematic triptych that charts the legacy of the Holocaust from the 1940s until today. The result is an intense and engaging drama with virtuoso one-take shots and an important message about history’s tendency to repeat itself. (Bergen International Film Festival)
