Plots(1)
David Niven plays Geoffrey Crisp, Mitchell's best friend and test pilot. Crisp recounts for the young British Airforce pilots, how Mitchell was one of the first people to see the threat of Hitler's Nazis. Working for the company Supermarine, Mitchell designs various foward thinking aircraft. He is often met with criticism for his radical designs. Despite this and other setbacks, Mitchell's planes succeed in winning trophies for high speed flight. During a visit to Germany in the mid 1930s with his wife Diana and friend Crisp, Mitchell becomes convinced that the Nazis are secretly preparing for war. With this, he sets out to build his masterpiece, the Spitfire, a very fast, heavily armed fighter plane which will help save England when the Nazis strike. But Mitchell must race against the clock as he is diagnosed with a terminal disease. (official distributor synopsis)
